Kitt meets Nielson for aid discussions
Mr Tom Kitt T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs with responsibility for development cooperation and human rights, had discussions in Dublin today with Poul Nielson, the European Commissioner who holds the development portfolio.
Minister Kitt and Commissioner Nielson discussed a wide range of issues of current interest, including the food crises in the Horn of Africa and Southern Africa, EU/African relations, the humanitarian dimension of the Iraq crisis, and the work programme likely to be faced in the area of EU development policy during Ireland's EU Presidency in the first half of 2004.
Commenting on his meeting, Minister Kitt said that he valued greatly the opportunity to consult with Commissioner Nielson on a number of critical issues. “We will be working very closely together on these issues over the coming months and in preparation for Ireland's EU Presidency next year”.
