Minister for Foreign Affairs meets delegation from South Armagh


The Minister for Foreign Affairs , Mr David Andrews T. D., this afternoon met with a delegation from the South Armagh Farmers and Resident's Committee (SAFRC).The delegation was accompanied by Deputy Caoimhghín O Caoláin.

The group expressed its deep concern to the Minister about the presence of British Army observation towers along the border and associated military activity.

The Minister told the group that he was well aware of the level of local disquiet on both sides of the border at the scale of the security profile in the South Armagh area.

In response to a point raised by SAFRC the Minister said that he viewed any crossing of the border, including inadvertent ones, as a very serious matter. All such incursions were immediately raised with the British authorities by the Anglo-Irish Secretariat in Belfast.

The Minister undertook to raise the issues discussed with the delegation, with the British authorities.
