The Embassy strongly encourages Irish citizens residing in, or visiting, Lithuania and Belarus, to register their contact details with the Embassy, so that in the event of an emergency the Embassy will be able to contact you.
While everyone hopes that visits will pass off without incident, in recent times there have been a number of examples of unexpected events which have impacted greatly on Irish travellers around the world. These include terrorist attacks in major cities around the world, the Volcanic Ash Cloud crisis and unrest in Bangkok in 2010, and the events in North Africa and the Middle East already this year.
While attacks such as the 11 April 2011 bombing in the Belarus metro are rare, in cases such as these, it is important that Embassies can make contact with citizens to check their welfare and offer assistance if possible.
You can register with the Embassy through the Department of Foreign Affairs' online Travel Registration system (link here), or by contacting us by the methods on the "Contact Us" page.
The Embassy also encourages visitors to Lithuania and Belarus to acquaint themselves with the most recent travel advice for these countries, which is available through the links below.
